Tyler Three Axis Mount
The Tyler Three Axes Mount,
also called the XYZ mount, was originally
built for the television series "Baa
Baa Black Sheep." The mount is intended
for fixed-wing use and is particularly suitable
for 3/4 rearward
shots. The gimble utilizes a combination of
spring and shock cord dampening for pan/tilt
resistance. However, the three axes mount is
not a conventional pan/tilt head (nor vibration
isolated). Rather it is a gimble that allows
the operator to 'target' the subject and hold
the frame independent of the camera ship's
yawing, pitching and rolling. Minimal pan/tilt
imput is possible, but will not be as smooth
or precise as a fluid or gear head. Use should
be carefully considered with the aerial cinematographer.
